The Thorogood brand has a rich history dating back to 1892 when Albert H. Weinbrenner, at the age of 27, opened a cobblery in Milwaukee with partner Joseph Peffer, serving the "Jobbing" trades. In 1900, the Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. was formed, and by 1916, the company had more leather cutting machines than any other in the U.S. The "Job-fitted" concept was introduced in 1917, and the company became a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army during World War I.

In the 1930s, the company took its first steps into safety footwear production, and during World War II, it converted to all-military footwear production, including combat and dress styles. These military boots also became popular with civilians. In 1964, the company introduced the iconic "Hike n' Camp" boot, which became its best-selling boot of all time.

Thorogood has continued to innovate over the years, with the company being purchased by a local group, including six employees, in 1988, who created the "ThoroGard" division featuring high-tech occupational safety footwear. In 2000, Thorogood employees took ownership of the company through an ESOP, and in 2014, the "1892 Heritage" line of handcrafted, lifestyle boots was introduced.

The current Thorogood product line includes the Crosstrex Polishable Toe/Side Zip - BBP Waterproof Safety Toe, the Uniform Classics 6" Poromeric Cross-Trainer Plus Boot, and the Uniform Classics - 8" Poromeric Commando Plus. These boots feature a range of technologies, including dual-density rubber outsoles, Goodyear storm welt construction, and removable single-density polyurethane footbeds, providing durable, comfortable, and high-traction performance for a variety of work environments.

Thorogood's commitment to quality and innovation is evident in the brand's 130-year history, and the company continues to expand its offerings, including the recent launch of its first western wear product, the Thorogood Square Toe Wellingtons. As Thorogood gains popularity and introduces many new styles, the brand's focus on providing "job-fitted" boots for hard-working individuals remains at the core of its mission.
